In the 19th century, during the battle of sevastopol, a French Soldier, or "Zouave," had his clay pipe broken by a stray bullet. He tore a piece of paper from his gunpowder bag and rolled a cigarette, unknowingly creating the world's first rolling paper. In 1879 the Braunstein Brothers immortalized that legendary soldier on every pack of Zig-Zag papers.
